Billy Ritter was born in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania in 1977. 

Prior to college he studied commercial and graphic arts at the local Monaca Area Vocational Technical School. In 2001 he received his BFA in painting from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. During his undergraduate coursework he studied painting, drawing, and ceramics internationally at the Academy of Fine Art & Design in Bratislava, Slovakia.
In 2010 he earned his MFA from Kent State University. Aside academia he has served various roles in the art world, most notably as the Director of Exhibitions at the International Museum of Art & Science in McAllen, Texas. In addition to his drawings, paintings, sculptures, and ceramic works, his limited edition art books are available exclusively at Printed Matter in New York City. Currently he is an adjunct professor of Ceramics at Cuyahoga Community College (Western Campus), and Orange Art Center. 

He lives and works in Cleveland, Ohio.
